Novak Djokovic Wins the 2020 Australian Open

The victory over Dominic Thiem gave him his 17th Grand Slam singles an eighth Australian Open title, and allowed him to reclaim the No. 1


Beating Dominic Thiem 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a minute under four hours in the Rod Laver Arena on a mild Sunday night returned him to No 1 in the world, as well as putting him two majors behind Rafael Nadal and three behind Roger Federer, whose record 20 slams once looked a mountain too high for his peers.

Chasing Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for most of his career, Djokovic became the first man in the Open Era to win a grand slam title in three decades by downing Austrian Dominic Thiem in an unforgettable three-hour, 59-minute final.
He has never lost a finale in Melbourne and has now tallied a 17th major overall to pull closer to the elder pair of Federer and Nadal.

Sonya Kenin is the 2020 Australian Open Singles Champion

Sofia Kenin became the youngest Australian Open champion in 12 years on Saturday, beating Garbiñe Muguruza 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to claim her first Grand Slam title.



The young American served a commendable 74% of first serves in, winning 64% of those points. Muguruza did not help herself with 45 unforced errors and just 32 winners. Kenin, on the other hand, kept her game tidy with 28 winners and 23 unforced errors.

21-year-old Sonya Kenin secured her first Grand Slam title in emphatic fashion, rallying from a set down to defeat former World No.1 Garbiñe Muguruza and become the youngest American woman to win a major since Serena Williams.

Kenin’s victory, in her first major final, represents a growing youth takeover in women’s tennis. At 21 years and 80 days of age, Kenin is 22 days younger than Naomi Osaka was when she won the title last year. In the previous Grand Slam tournament, the United States Open in September, the champion was the 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu. Kenin’s victory also follows the 2008 victory of Maria Sharapova, who was 20 when she won.



Kenin told the adoring Rod Laver Arena crowd the last two weeks in Australia had been “the best” of her life.

“I just want to say, you know, my dream has officially come true,” Kenin said.
“I cannot even describe this feeling. It is so emotional and I have worked so hard.
“I am just so grateful to be standing here.
“Dreams come true, so if you have a dream oh for it and it will come true.”

Spain Won the 2019 Davis Cup final

After a week of relentless tension and late-night heroics it was time for the first final in the Davis Cup’s new guise to deliver a classic and so it proved as Spain became the last nation standing of the 18 who assembled in Madrid.

The top-ranked 33-year-old Nadal fought off Canadian youngster Denis Shapovalov 6-3 7-6(7) to give Spain their first title since 2011.



Nadal won all his matches, leading Spain to its sixth Davis Cup title after a 2-0 win over first-time finalist Canada on Sunday in La Caja Magica stadium.

The Tennis world number 1 Spanish star even admitted he risked getting injured by playing eight matches — five singles, three doubles — in six days at the Davis Cup Finals, the new World Cup of men’s team tennis.

World No.1 Ashleigh Barty continued her memorable 2019 by claiming the biggest prize in tennis history with a fourth trophy of the year, delivering a dazzling performance to dethrone defending champion and No.8 seed Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen over one hour and 27 minutes.


The 23-year-old Australian wrapped up the straight sets victory, her first in six attempts against her Ukrainian opponent, to claim a $4.42 million prize purse.

 "It feels like it's been a year that just hasn't stopped. It's been a year of incredible ups and downs - I think more ups than downs. To cap it off with a very, very special night tonight in Shenzhen is really cool." said Ashleigh Barty after the match.

Rafael Nadal Wins the 2019 Tennis US Open

Rafael Nadal Beats Daniil Medvedev in Five Sets to Win US Open for 19th Major Title, a 118-mph service winner that Daniil Medvedev returned long, Nadal fell to the Arthur Ashe Stadium court and lay on his back. It was finally over.



Nadal, the No. 2 seed, prevailed in an instant classic for his fourth U.S. Open and 19th major title with a 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 victory over the No. 5 seeded Medvedev of Russia, who displayed huge guts in his first major final. The match went 4 hours, 51 minutes to win his fourth Tennis US Open title for his 19th major trophy on Sunday in Arthur Ashe Stadium. It’s Nadal’s overall career 84th singles title.



Nadal dropped only one set en route to the final.
This was Nadal’s second meeting against Medvedev, he dominated him the Montreal final 6-3, 6-0.

In the last tennis major of the decade, Nadal closed to within one of Roger Federer's men's mark of 20 Slams. It's entirely possible Nadal could tie and surpass Federer sometime in 2020.

"Have been an amazing final, no? Since I had more or less the match under control," Nadal said on court. "First word I have to say to Daniil is his summer is one of the best summers I have ever saw in our sport since I started playing.

"Everybody saw why he is the No. 4 player in the world at 23 years old. So many congratulations for everything. The way that he was able to fight, to change the rhythm of the match was just incredible. I’m sure that you will have many more chances to win here so all the best."

Bianca Andreescu wins the 2019 tennis us open

Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu stuns Serena Williams to win the 2019 tennis US Open final.


The 19-year-old Andreescu became the youngest Grand Slam winner since Maria Sharapova at the 2006 US Open, handing Williams a fourth consecutive defeat in the final of a major to again deny her a record-equaling 24th Slam title.


Andreescu took charge early in the U.S. Open final, going up by a set and two breaks, then held off a late charge by Williams to win 6-3, 7-5 for the championship Saturday night in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Bianca Andreescu displayed the same brand of big-serving, big-hitting, in-your-face tennis that Serena Williams usually does.


And now the 19-year-old from Canada is a Grand Slam champion, earning her first such title.

“Being able to play on this stage against Serena, a true legend in this sport, is amazing,” said Andreescu, who was appearing in her first major final, while Williams was in her 33rd. “Oh, man, it wasn’t easy at all.”

For four hours and 57 minutes, they resided side by side in the land of lost opportunities, before the world No 1 brought their mutual bewilderment to a close to win by the unique scoreline: 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 13-12 (3).

The Swiss Federer had two match points at 8-7 in the fifth, but ended up losing the first 12-all tie-break to decide the title – and his third shootout of the match, one as mesmerising and strange as any of the 48 they have played.

The Serbian world number one has now won 16 Grand Slam titles.

Simona Halep wins the 2019 Wimbledon Championships

Rafael Nadal wins his 12th French Open title

Rafael Nadal has become the first Tennis player, man or woman, to win the same Slam 12 times after beating Austrian fourth seed Dominic Thiem in four sets to lift a 12th men's singles French Open title.


The Spaniard No. 2 seed won for the third straight year at Roland Garros with a 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1 victory in a high-quality final. Nadal improved to an almost unbelievable 93-2 in Paris.

The 33-year-old is the first player to win 12 singles titles at the same Grand Slam and has now won 18 majors overall.

Rafa Nadal continues to make tennis history and continues to move up the all-time list of major titles in men's tennis.

Thiem finally took a set off of Nadal, his first in their four matches at the French Open, but that's a cry from winning a best-of-five-sets match against the greatest clay court player in history. Nadal beat Thiem in straight sets in last year's French final.

Ashleigh Barty wins the 2019 French Open women’s title

Ashleigh Barty has become Australia’s first French Open champion in 46 years with a dominant 6-1 6-3 win over Czech teenage sensation Marketa Vondrousova.


Ashleigh Barty has completed her three-year transformation in “perfect” style, lifting her first Grand Slam on Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris.

The No.8 seed 23-year-old Aussie becomes the first from her country to win a major singles title since Samantha Stosur at the 2011 US Open, securing victory after 70 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

"It's remarkable," Barty said in her post-match press conference. "At the moment it's a bit too much and a bit out there, really. But it's amazing. I mean, we have done the work, and we tried to put ourselves in these positions. Now that we're here, it's just incredible."

Petra Kvitova wins the 2019 Stuttgart Porsche Grand Prix

World number three Petra Kvitova beat Estonian Anett Kontaveit 6-3 7-6(2) to win Stuttgart’s Porsche Grand Prix on Sunday and has become the first player to win two WTA singles titles in 2019.


Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion, broke her opponent to go 4-2 up in the first set and served out the set a little later on the quick indoor clay courts in Stuttgart Germani.

The 29 yers- old Czech had to work much harder in the second set as she had to save two set points at 5-4 as Kontaveit had her pinned to the baseline.



However, the Estonian, who received a walkover into the final after top seed Naomi Osaka pulled out from their last four clash due to injury, missed her chances and allowed Kvitova to come back and won the turnamen in 6-3 7-6 (7-2) in one hour 31 minutes.

Belinda Bencic wins the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships

Belinda Bencic has won the 2019 WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after defeating Petra Kvitova 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in Saturday's final.



Now, the Swiss player is back in the ascendancy after taking down Australian Open finalist Petra Kvitova, in an hour and 45 minutes to claim her third career title. The 21 year old claimed her first Premier title since 2015 with an impressive display as she defeated a fourth top-10 player in four days.


The swiss Belinda Bencic is officially back to her winning ways after, toppling No.2 seed of the Czech Republic Petra Kvitova in three sets to win the title.

The unseeded Swiss Bencic, ranked No.45 in the world, came into the match looking to lift her first WTA trophy since the Rogers Cup in Toronto in 2015. Having broken into the Top 10 rankings as a teenager, Bencic found her career derailed by injuries - including a wrist surgery.

“It's unbelievable. It's incredible. I mean, I still cannot believe it,” Bencic told press later. “Especially I'm realizing after two rounds, we were already saying, ‘Wow, this is a great tournament.’ Now it's only bonus.

“Then I won against Sabalenka after being out already. We said the same thing again. Really, the expectations after two rounds were not there anymore. So many times I was close from defeat. It's unbelievable that I ended up winning this.”

Gael Monfils won the 2019 Rotterdam ATP World Tournament

Gael Monfils of France beat the unseeded Swiss Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 at the ABN AMRO World Tournament to win his eighth career title. In one hour and 44 minutes in front of a capacity 15,000-strong crowd at the Rotterdam Ahoy arena.



The 32-year-old, Frenchman Gael Monfils battled hard to lift his first ATP Tour trophy for 13 months on Sunday at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The final was three-time major champion Wawrinka's first since the 2017 French Open, where he previously met Monfils in the fourth round.
Monfils also reached the Rotterdam final in 2016.

Elise Mertens wins the 2019 WTA Qatar Open

Elise Mertens rallied from a set and a break down to defeat in style Simona Halep to claim her first title of the season, and biggest of her career, at the Qatar Total Open.


The unseeded Belgian rallied from a set and a break down to defeat top seed Romanian Simona Halep, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to win her first-ever WTA Premier-level crown, and the fifth title of her career overall.

Mertens' victory capped a phenomenal week in which she beat three top-10 players, the former World No.12 defeated three Top 10 foes in the last three rounds overall, as she also defeated Kiki Bertens and Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals and semifinals at the Qatar Open, respectively.
