    Lewis Hamilton won the 1000th Formula 1's Chinese Grand Prix



    Lewis Hamilton took the chequered flag at the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix as Mercedes secured their third successive one-two from the opening three races of the 2019 season.



    He took the lead off Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas—who started on pole and finished second—heading into the first turn and held on to win F1's 1,000th race at the Shanghai International Circuit, putting him in the lead in the drivers' championship.


    Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was third in China, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was fourth and Vettel’s team-mate Charles Leclerc was fifth. When in third place on lap 11 Leclerc was ordered by his Ferrari bosses to let Vettel pass.


    Hamilton took control of the world championship on Sunday - as rival Sebastian Vettel defended his number one billing at Ferrari.

    All weekend in China, Formula One has been celebrating the grand achievement of reaching its 1,000th world championship race.



    In Formula One’s 1,000th race, Lewis Hamilton - the British star deliveredanother flawless performance by winning for a sixth time in China, the 75th victory of his career, joining only Michael Schumacher by leading more than 4,000 laps.
